Tatsuno Art Project 2014
Japan-Poland Contemporary Arts Festival: "Flow"

Outline

Tatsuno, an old castle town, is home to many cultural properties, including soy-sauce warehouses dating back to the Edo Period (1603-1868) when the soy sauce industry flourished in the region. Launched in 2011, the Tatsuno Art Project aims to help preserve these traditional buildings, use them for innovative purposes, and make more people aware of their charm, so as to revitalize the region and attract more visitors. In 2013, the event was envisioned as "a historic castle town as a museum," and diverse genres of art were brought together in the special event Contemporary Music and Art in Harmony.

For 2014 the theme is "Flow," and the focus is on the performing arts. A contemporary arts festival incorporating music, video, installation, dance and other media will be held in a historic soy sauce warehouse (registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan). Like last year, artists will be invited from Poland and the event will promote mutual understanding, international exchange, and international communication between the two countries. In the unique atmosphere of the soy sauce warehouse, which shows intriguing traces of its many years of use, music will take on a resonance that could not be achieved in a concert hall, and the audience will be seated close so as to connect with the performers, with videos, paintings, cut paper works and other visual art that surround the viewers for stunning overall effect. A wide range of genres will "flow" together in the distinctive space of the soy sauce warehouse interior, generating an innovative and unforgettable multi-sensory art experience.
